13949712720901ForOSX

If you're affected, you probably already know that there's no Java 6 for OS X 10.5 Leopard and that Apple's keeping a tight lid on any information regarding that issue.

There's this campaign started by a few people at sun (I don't think it's official) and so I thought I'd chime in.

I'd really like to continue using Leopard on my MacBook Pro to develop software for my clients but as these projects currently require Java6 I have to dual-boot into Tiger or find similar dissatisfactory solutions.

So, to sum this up. The current situation sucks.

Thanks.

Letter to Robosanta

Dear Robosanta,
I wish that on any machine, computer or person having audio-jacks for normal speakers and $RANDOM_INTEGER.1 speakers the jack for normal speakers is painted neon-green and has a double row of red and yellow arrows pointing to it as well as a glowing moving neon sign saying "FOR THE LOVE OF GOD PUT IT IN HERE" that floats 5 cm in front of the the jack pointing at it so that I can see it when I crawl behind the machine/computer/person or under the desk to connect my speakers to said machine/computer/person.

Thank you

I Am Legend

I am Legend by Richard Matheson

I just finished reading this novel and it's the first about vampires that I really liked*.
There is a movie - The Omega Man - derived from the book starring Charlton Heston but its story and setting are very different from I am Legend.
Which is a shame, because Mr. Heston would have been great as Neville in a version closer to the book. Alas, it wasn't to be.

I will not talk about the story (go read it, it's worth it!) and so I'll conclude this not-really-a-review with a hearty

"Come out, Neville!"

*)Well actually I also liked Anno Dracula, but that's more of a guilty pleasure because I have a soft spot in my heart for stories that take a crazy initial premise and then run with it.

A miracle of science!

My good friend Bnerd[tm] already posted it so I'll just link to his protocol of my greatest invention ever (to date)!

Are these the first symptoms of S.R.M.D.?

Who can say? ;)

(By the way, A Miracle of Science is a really nice webcomic)

Evil Capitalists stealing our power!

Most interesting.
Phoenix shows a documentary about the large german power-companies and how they supposedly screw over their customers and keep competition out of the market.

The tone suggests that it's all the fault of the evil capitalists in the large companies who abuse their power (the nonelectric kind).

What's funny is that every supposedly illegal or immoral thing that these power companies do (abusing supposedly eco-friendly legislation to drive up profits, setting up laws so that the larger power providers are greatly advantaged compared to smaller ones, etc.) is only possible because those corporations can influence politicians through lobbying.

So maybe it's rather the fault of those politicians?
Na... can't be.

To end this with something happier. It seems that despite all this, there seems to be a growing number of smaller power companies (roughly municipal level) that are quite successful by providing small regions with cheaper (and more environmentally friendly) electricity.

yay!

Oh, and they use a really nice bluescreen effect where the presenter steps into the frozen film to continue the narration.

"Now the two key words for tonight - 'caution' and 'flammable'"

I just finished watching Bubba Ho-Tep.

If movies had driver's licences, this one's would be showing the name Awesomuel Awesomston.

While some of the effects betray the tiny budget, acting and dialogue is great.

Thanks to Niti for lending me the DVD :)
